Many states have been quarantined for EAB. Infested areas are quarantined to prevent the spread of the beetle and materials that could contain EAB. If you live in a quarantine area, do not move firewood — burn it where you buy it.

Identifying EAB

Adult EAB

Adult EAB are most active from May to October. While their small size makes them difficult to spot, their unique identifying characteristics are:

  • Bright, metallic green
  • ½” long, flattened back
  • Purple abdominal segments beneath wing covers

The EAB larvae are usually hidden from sight beneath the bark. They have the following characteristics:

  • Creamy white, legless
  • Flattened, bell-shaped body segments
  • A pair of small appendages near the end of its body
